Start with concept art.
1) Collect at least 4 photo ideas. Sketch variations of these creatures.
2)Write what would you change and why?
3)Write a list of personality attributes; shy, aggressive, rude, bold, messy, loyal, talkative. Discuss with a partner who you know (person or animal) with those qualities. How would you take care of a pet with this temperament and personality?
4) Watch examples videos, discuss with team. Use concept art to develop 3D character.
Time frame (two weeks)
Composite your animated animal with video of you holding, chasing, feeding or petting your animal.
What to turn in:
1) A screen shot (F9)
Print screen paste in word doc) of your 3D pet or monster including texture and backdrop.
Explanation of character's attitude, strengths...
2) The model of your combined animal. Remember to save a copy for yourself on the "D" drive of your computer. It is a .lwo object file.
3) The rendered AVI movie of your pet moving or singing with you.

O.K. now we can move to step 2 of creating your perfect pet.
Watch: the "fish dog" video made with Lightwave.
1) Think about pets you have encountered.
2) Make a list of characteristics you would like in a pet. Friendly, defensive, good hunter, tiny, huge, lots of fur, scales, feathers......
3) Do any of your silhouettes look like the characteristics you would want? If not... make some more.
4) Find reference images for your pet. Example: legs of a giraffe, head of a dog, tail of a fish......
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Using a WACOM tablet, draw at least 2 sketch ideas for your pet. You can start with your inkblot if you want.
Combine the images you found on the internet in your sketch ideas.
Open a word document and paste 2 of your best ideas in the document.
Write the answers to the following questions.
1) Analyze: How was this new character the perfect pet for you?
2) Explain: What have you combined from each animal or insect and how the pet or monster will look and behave? Write a short story about the pet or monster. (one page double spaced) Who, what, where, why
What to turn in: A word document with sketches pasted into the story.

Project #3 Mixed up Monster or Pet Your first Concept art
Have you ever thought about having a perfect pet or maybe owning your own monster?
Concept artists help create the characters and environments that you see in movies, commercials and games. You might be wondering...how they do that.
Most concept artists start with inkblot sketches to get a sense of the characters weight and shape.
Sometimes just the posture of a character can make you sense that the character is friendly or aggressive.
Let's try it:
1)Open Photoshop and draw an ink blob with black ink.
2) Go to liquefy under the filters tab.
3) Push the ink around. Bring the ink blot back to the main page in Photoshop to add detail.
4) Rotate your page if needed to get ideas. Add more lines and detail
It is much like looking at clouds and seeing objects, or finding driftwood that looks like a dragon.
Push your imagination further than just the first idea. What else do you see?
